"Life's Rich Tapestry - The Felt People.
The album opens with Mississippi storm - a deliciously dreamy twining mix of vocals / guitar and synth - liked the end of a wire weekend.
This leads, appropriately enough, into Tuesday morning blues
The standout tracks are Substance with its funky bass line and jazz piano carrying the song with a plaintive, well delivered, vocal. This moves into track 4, The Creator, with a slower pace and scratch vocal reminiscent of the best of the early Sabres. It acts as a punctuation or bridge between the first three tracks and the rest of the album.
The other standout, for me, track is Generations with it's African drums, Steel guitar and a slight calypso feel.
The closing track, Empty Streets, is perhaps a pessimistic close to the journey with its rapped up Bob Marley vocal and Dub vocal.
Well packaged and sequenced the artwork blending well with the theme of the album. If anything it's a little short - but then that can be said of all great albums!
Over many listens this album continues to delight and grow.
The album encompasses many different styles and sounds, blended together into a multi layered eclectic mix, as it says on the tin - it's all part of Life's Rich Tapestry. It's well mixed with lots of space between all the various instruments and obvious attention to detail.
I thoroughly recommend this to anybody who likes Fluke, Leftfield, Sabres etc. You owe it to yourself – get yourself Felt.
