John brings literally decades of engineering and production experiece to our team here at Calder Recordings.

Producing and engineering bands for John Peel’s Dandelion label then working with Tony Wilson recording live on stage with bands such as Elvis Costello, Iggy Pop, the Buzzcocks, the Jam, and the Tom Robinson Band. Moving into studio work by building the legendary 'Cargo Studios' and engineering and producing some of the most celebrated music of it's time. Bands like - Joy Division, The Fall, Gang of Four, Not Sensibles, A Certain Ratio, Nico, Section 25, John the Postman, Trax, The Teardrop Explodes, OMD, Dead Or Alive ..the list goes on.

More recently, John has worked with celebrated musician Cemlyn Jones and Audit Control on their debut albums. If you need a touch of class bringing to your album or single projects book John!

Steve Fenton

Freelance Producer/Engineer

Steve is a much sought after freelance Producer & Engineer, he's also responsible for building the studio all those years ago.

He has worked on a large number of album, single and remix projects, many with acclaimed artists such as The Happy Mondays, T-Rex, Clive Russel, John Helliwell, Rowetta, Mike Walker, Mark Hart, Widgykeff, Sunny D Levine, Operator Six, Exit State, Mabel Blue and more. With loads of radio play and label credits, attention to detail and a true love for projects he works on, Steve will get the job done!

Steve's also a Senior Lecturer in Music Technology and teaches some of the in-house training courses. He's also researching for a PhD in Audio Quality in Music Production and is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society.

Mark Mynett

Freelance Producer/Engineer

Mark has been involved involved in Pro Audio for over 15 years and had 6 internationally released albums as guitarist for the bands China Beach, Kill II This and City of God. After moving into production, he has had releases on Universal, Sony and more, working with bands like Godsized, Gone Til Winter, Psylence and Head On to name but a few. He is also a regular contributor to Sound On Sound, Future Music and Computer Music Magazines..he knows a thing or two about engineering and production you see.

If you're needing a release quality extreme/black/death/metal production, Mark is the man for the job.

James Mottershead

Freelance Producer/Engineer

James Mottershead is our newest freelance engineer/producer. He's worked with many well known artists including British Sea Power, Gavin Friday, Susheela Raman, Kensington, N-Dubz, & Smokie.

He's worked as an engineer alongide producers such as Ken Thomas, Simon Humphrey, James Kenosha, Lars Pederson, Afreex (Kelvin Avon) & Matt Foster and has release credits on labels including Rough Trade, Universal, Rubyworks, All Around the World and King Prawn Records.

Michael Gounelas

In-house Engineer

Michael has a first class honours degree in Music Technology and Audio Systems. He has engineered numerous bands ranging from rock and metal to blues and funk. In addition to his skills as an engineer, Michael works as a freelance audio engineer and designs/builds custom audio gear and audio/visual software upon request. Some of his gear takes pride of place in our studio!

Michael has collaborated with a number of artists from around the world (Spain, France, Greece, etc.). Also, he has composed music for independent films and documentaries such as the Award-winning ''Nuclear UK?''
