THREE PEAKS AND ONE ALBUM FOR CODEGO
Halifax indie rock 5-piece Codego pushed themselves to the limit to record their debut album, although the recording was a walk in the park compared to their 3 peaks fundraising challenge.
The three peaks consist of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Mount Snowdon in Wales, climbed one after another, within 24 hours! Codego took on the challenge to raise money for the Leeds Society For Deaf And Blind People, and also to raise funds towards their debut album, with anyone sponsoring £10 or more getting a free album.
Choosing possibly the wettest and windiest weekend in November, the band began their climb at 5pm, trecking through the night. Frontman Lee Bray commented "It was so windy that the water was flowing up hill."
Back in the warmth of the studio, the 12 track album featuring new songs and reworked older favorites is almost complete. Visit www.myspace.com/codego for more information.

DEAN TELLS IT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH
A Halifax musician who was told he was too ill to ever fulfil his ambition of writing and recording his own music has defied the odds to create his debut CD with a little help from his friends.
Dean Charlton, who has spent his entire adult life fighting bi-polar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and cancer, has always dreamed of releasing his own record. Now with help from a collective known as "From The Horse's Mouth", he has recorded the 12 track album "One Foot In Front Of The Other" (a combination of folk, rock and punk) 30 years after he first started penning lyrics, with our very own Steve Gligorovic guesting on Bass guitar as well as producing.
Already the album has proved something of a small commercial and critical success, selling steadily around Calderdale and earning praise from local music experts.
Dean, a volunteer worker said "When you suffer with what I do you get written off. People don't believe you can achieve your goals. They see my life simply as a battle to stay well, so to prove them wrong feels brilliant."

LOCAL BANDS REWARDED WITH FREE STUDIO TIME
Three local bands have been awarded free studio time here at Calder after proving themselves best in show.
Sowerby Bridge band The Loconics will soon be returning to Calder after a successful session last December. The band triumphed in the "July Project Battle of the Bands" competition organised by our friends at Square Chapel. The July Project is a joint venture between Square Chapel and Eureka! A week long festival celebrating the achievements and talents of young people in Calderdale. The competition was one of the highlights of a busy week of activities aimed at 11-19 year olds.
Once again Calder Recordings was pleased to sponsor the annual "Keighley Musician's Centre Battle of the Bands" competition. This year's final was the first to be held outside at Cliffe Castle, Keighley. Almost 1,000 fans, friends and family attended during the course of the day where they were treated to 12 of West Yorkshire's best up and coming bands. Hebden Bridge instrumental outfit Cool Piano Roll triumphed in the senior section, with Keighley's own The Luminaries taking the junior honours. Both bands will be visiting us for their free day in the studio. |

NEW FACILITIES AND ONLINE MASTERING SERVICE
We've just expanded our mastering facilities and now offer an online mastering service.
Mastering is a process often overlooked by many bands. In a nutshell, its the process which gives the finished recordings extra punch, presence, sheen, stereo width and finally overall loudness to compete with other commercial releases. It's akin to sprinkling of angel dust on your creation to enhance it's natural beauty!
For more information about these services take a look at our mastering page. |
